This Summer 74 members of the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra toured Southern Spain and Portugal. Whilst abroad our young people acted as first rate Ambassadors for Belfast showcasing all that is good about Northern Ireland and the wealth of talent we have. Our First Concert was in the coastal resort of Chipiona, near Cadiz where we the Orchestra performed as part of the local Festival before a capacity crowd in the cloisters of the local Cathedral.

Our second Concert in the town of Sanlucar la Mayor, near Seville was very well received. Once again the Orchestra Members received a very warm welcome from the local Community. This concert presented a new challenge to the members of the orchestra which they coped with very well; performing in temperatures of 34oC at 10.00pm - something you don't get in Belfast!

For the second half of the week, we relocated to wonderful city of Lisbon in Portugal for the main concert of the tour as part of the Lisbon Musicfest. This festival showcases youth Orchestras from around the world and the CBYO were performing alongside ensembles from Hong Kong, Isreal, Taiwan and Switzerland. The orchestra performed before a full house including delegations for the British and Irish Embassies to Portugal in the stunning venue of the Ruinas do Carmo

Amidst our concerts, two of which were performed in the middle of a heat wave, there was also some time for some relaxation.

Until next time......
